MI MAMA

 MI MAMA

We follow Nadia Mercado, the daughter of Clariza Valdez, a Dominican immigrant, as she goes back to Arches National Park and reclaims her narrative in the outdoors and in US Public Lands. “I made my first hike at 24 years old while visiting Arches National Park, Utah. It changed my life. And this is where I fell in love with the outdoors. For so long I absolutely believed this narrative to be true, but I now realize that...I’ve been lying.” Through her time back in Canyonland country we learn what it took to have the opportunity to travel to this place and where her true love of the outdoors was found. The film juxtaposes the story of her own backyard, and the story she thought she had to tell to the world to be accepted in the outdoor industry.
