CLIMATE AND CULTURE IN DENALI

DENALI

MUSHING THROUGH CLIMATE CHANGE IN DENALI

Sled dogs and rangers have worked together in Denali National Park and Preserve since the 1920’s to tackle the majority of the Park’s work in the winter throughout 2.5 million acres of designated Wilderness. While a team of sled dogs is obviously far slower than an airplane or a snowmobile, they are arguably more reliable to operate in the extreme conditions of a sub-arctic winter. However, climate change is creating more and problems for the Denali dog teams. Jayme has mushed dogs, 850 miles throughout Denali National Park and traveled through MacGonagall Pass in Denali monitoring climate change impacts and creating film pieces surrounding the fundamental question - what would Denali be like if we didn’t have sled dogs.
